Dark Dungeons has Moved!

Posted in Uncategorized on September 26, 2011 by Dean Anderson

Dark Dungeons is no longer alone. It now has a sister game – Darker Dungeons – and another one on the way.

Because of this expansion, I’m moving from this Dark Dungeons specific website to a new website (HERE) where you can get both the above games plus more.

Blood, Guts and Glory is back!

If you’ve enjoyed reading or playing Dark Dungeons, you may be interested to know that work has started again on my other game – Blood, Guts and Glory.

Unlike Dark Dungeons, which is a direct retro-clone of a specific edition of a specific game; Blood, Guts and Glory is a retro-mash-up (as far as I know the first of its kind) that takes two classic systems and merges their rules together into a single unified game. Obviously, I’m legally prevented from announcing which games I’m talking about here – but if you check out the new Work In Progress document for Blood, Guts and Glory it should be obvious…

An Automated Character Sheet

I’ve created an automated character sheet for Dark Dungeons, which will calculate most of your bonuses and special abilities for you if you put in your ability scores, class, and experience. It can be downloaded from here: Dark Dungeons Automated Character Sheet

Second Printing Now Finished

Posted in Uncategorized on October 16, 2010 by Dean Anderson

The second printing (there aren’t enough changes to warrant calling it a “second edition”) of Dark Dungeons is now available in three different versions (Softback, Hardback, and Deluxe).

This printing includes:

  • Fixes to all known errata.
  • A simplified (but functionally identical in most situations) method of calculating to-hit numbers. No more having to look everything up on the table! (But the table is still included if you prefer look-ups to simple maths)
  • The missing Morale rules.
  • Expanded rules for humanoid leaders, shamans, and sorcerers.

For those of you with the first printing, who understandably might not want to buy a second book, there is an uplift document available on the Downloads page

You can get to all three Lulu projects through the Printed Books page, and the PDF version (well, three of them actually) is available from the Downloads page.

New Version Now Available in Electronic Format

As the title says, the revised version of Dark Dungeons is now available for download (from the Download Page). The printed version is currently with Lulu and will be available when it has been proofed. The new version contains over a hundred corrections to typos and errors found in the first version; a simplified – but functionally identical over the majority of levels and armour classes – way of calculating to-hit values; and additional rules and clarification for Morale, Monster Leaders, and Shamans & Sorcerers.

New Look Website

In anticipation of the second printing being released, I’ve reformatted the Dark Dungeons website. There’s less emphasis on blog posts, since updates are going to be far less frequent than when the game was under active development, and more emphasis on the static parts of the site (which have also been completely re-written to match Dark Dungeons’s status as a finished product rather than a work-in-progress).
